Minimum requirements for installing and using Arlo camera security system – Arlo Camera Setup

Arlo Camera Setup
For activating your Arlo system:

  • A computer or a mobile device with a supported operating system (OS) versions
  • The supported web browsers that work with the Arlo web application: Internet Explorer 10 or higher, Microsoft Edge and the latest version of Firefox, Safari, and Chrome for arlo.netgear.com
  • An Arlo app for Mobile phones.
  • Adobe Flash Player in case you are using an Internet browser other than Chrome.
  • A high-speed Internet connection.
  • A router with an available Ethernet port (for using an Arlo or Arlo Pro base station).

Arlo camera account configuration- through Arlo app or arlo.netgear.com

Before setting up Netgear Arlo security cameras, you must first create an Arlo Netgear login ID. Arlo account should be created by downloading the Arlo app from Google play store or Apple store and installing it. Open the app after installation and select the option to create an account. You can create an Arlo login account by providing your email address and then creating a strong password. The email address is used as your Arlo Netgear login ID. Thereafter, you will be asked for verification and then you are done with successfully creating an account from which you can sign in and then configure your Arlo cameras to watch the saved camera footage anytime and anywhere. An Arlo account can also be registered through Arlo website arlo.netgear.com.

Arlo wire-free camera set up and sync – Arlo camera Setup

Arlo wire-free camera set upArlo Wire-Free cameras set up requires both Arlo base stations. Syncing of Arlo Wire-Free cameras with an Arlo Pro base station lets the Arlo Wire-Free cameras to access the features of Arlo Pro base station: the siren and the USB local backup storage option.

Steps To set up and sync Arlo Wire-Free cameras:

  • Start with the Arlo base station setup first: Plug the Ethernet cord into the Arlo base station and wait for it to connect to the internet. After a successful internet connection to the system, the lights on the base station will light.
  • Next step is to load the lithium-ion batteries in the Arlo camera:
    • Unlock the battery compartment in the Arlo camera by sliding and holding the latch.
    • Slide back the battery door back lift it to open it.
    • Insert and place the batteries properly and close the battery door.
  • Bring the Arlo camera within one to three feet or 30 to 100 centimeters range of the Arlo base station.

Now you must Sync the Arlo camera to the base station:

    • Locate the sync buttons on your Arlo base station on the side or on the back of the base station
    • Press the Sync button for about two seconds and then release it.

Note: do not press the Arlo Wire-Free Sync button on the base station for too long as this will make the LED under the USB symbol blink amber for 10 minutes. The amber light on the USB indicates the sync process is blocked.

  • Locate the Sync button on top of the Arlo camera.
  • Press the Camera sync button for about two seconds and then release it.
    Note: all the Cameras must be synced one at a time.
  • A blue LED on the camera will start to blink rapidly confirming the sync process.
  • Pressing the camera sync button too can also cause the LED to blink amber light, which indicates that the sync has not been successful. You will have to repeat the sync process.
  • Next, check the camera LED on the base station if it has turned solid green or not. If it turns solid green that means the sync process has been completed.
  • For sync, all other cameras with the Arlo base station, repeat the same steps for each camera.
    Note: you must complete the sync process within 60 seconds otherwise you will have to start all over again by press the Sync button on the base station and then try again.

Arlo Pro or Arlo Pro 2 Wire-Free cameras set up and sync – Arlo camera Setup

Arlo Pro or Arlo Pro 2You can set up Arlo Pro or Arlo Pro 2 Wire-Free cameras with Arlo base stations, Arlo Pro base stations, and Arlo Pro 2 base stations through following steps below. In case you are Syncing Arlo Pro or Arlo Pro 2 Wire-Free cameras with an Arlo base station, you can still use the features of Arlo Pro or Arlo Pro 2 Wire-Free cameras like rechargeable batteries, 2-way audio, use of AC power, and advanced motion detection.

To set up and sync Arlo Pro or Arlo Pro 2 Wire-Free cameras:

  • Start with the Arlo base station setup first: Plug the Ethernet cord into the Arlo base station and wait for it to connect to the internet. After a successful internet connection to the system, the lights on the base station will light.
  • Next step is to load the lithium-ion batteries in the Arlo camera:

Mount the Arlo camera - Arlo camera setup

Mount the Arlo cameraAfter you have completed the Arlo camera setup you will then have to mount the camera on a proper and safe wall location. Arlo cameras are mounted into the mounting brackets which are provided with the product package. It is quite easy to mount the cameras on the brackets because they are highly magnetic in nature. Their magnetism allows stronghold on the Arlo camera providing magnetic force at any angle. Magnetic brackets must be firmly fixed to the wall to prevent their falling off from the wall.

It is not necessary to put the Arlo cameras on brackets for them to work however they can just be put on a surface as well.

My camera is unable to sync with the base station; how can I troubleshoot it?

While performing the Arlo camera Setup process, sometimes, an Arlo camera fails to sync with your Arlo, Arlo Pro, or Arlo Pro 2 base stations. An Arlo camera will not be detected by your system until and unless it is successfully synced.

Here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve the sync issue:

Keep your Arlo camera close to the base station: you must place your Arlo camera which you are trying to sync not more than three feet away from the base station during the syncing

process. Placing the camera too far will not let the sync process to work by pressing or releasing sync buttons on your Arlo camera or Arlo Base station.

Press the camera and base station Sync buttons in the right order and for the right duration

  1. While using an Arlo base station, you must press the Sync button located on the side of the Arlo base station for about two seconds and then release it.
    Note: Do not press the Arlo Wire-Free Sync button on the base station for too long as this will make the LED under the USB symbol blink amber for 10 minutes. The amber light on the USB indicates the sync process is blocked. In case this happens, you should wait for 15 minutes and then try the sync process again.
  2. While using an Arlo Pro or Arlo Pro 2 base station, you must press the sync button on the top of the base station for about two seconds and then release it.
  3. Then, you must wait till the sync status LED on the base station to blink green and then follow pressing the Sync button located on the top of the camera for about two seconds and then release it.
    The camera LED will then blink blue light rapidly to confirm sync.
    Note: all the Arlo cameras must be synced one at a time.
  4. Repeat the above steps for each camera.

Check Arlo camera battery status

You must ensure that your Arlo cameras do not have low battery status as low batteries prevent your camera from syncing to the base station. If the battery is low, it is indicated by the orange battery icon which you can check by following the steps below:

  1. Launch the Arlo app on your mobile device or log in to your Arlo account (Arlo Camera Login) at my.arlo.com.
  2.  Click on the menu icon.
  3. Click on the Device Settings which will display your battery status on the Device Settings page.

Check Arlo base station status

If you cannot see the Arlo base station, you need to add the Arlo base station to your system before syncing any cameras to it. If in any case, your Arlo base station is deactivated, your Arlo cameras cannot sync to it.

  1. Launch the Arlo app on your mobile device or log in to your Arlo account (Arlo Camera Login) at my.arlo.com.
  2. Click on Settings and then select My Devices.
  3. Select your Arlo base station which will display your base station device settings.
